We need to insert a secret OPPOrator into a used car dealer to start pasting relevant Regular Car Review quotes into the descriptions of every car for sale. Think of how much more informed all the buyers would be!

That's a nice ad, and a cool car. I can't decide if I want to get an FJ in the future or a pickup truck. I was looking through one of my local dealer websites the other day and even though the site has search criteria like transmission, price and colour, there were no photos, prices were CALL and the transmission was UNKNOWN. It was pretty useless.

Pretty accurate description, save for the fact that the ad fails to mention that you cannot see out of this thing at all. If you want to know what driving an FJ Cruiser is like, slap two pieces of electrical tape over your sunglasses, leaving about a half an inch between the two pieces, then drive around in your own car. That's basically it.

Sadly, due to safety regulations, that goes for a lot of modern SUV's.

I might refute that a bit. I'm sure there are other similar vehicles that have better visibility and similar safety ratings.

Or maybe I'm just ignorant, and think almost anything can be solved with better engineering.

Pillars have to be a certain thickness and all the other structural equipment make that kind of difficult. There is a reason back-up cameras are becoming a standard feature.

Pillars are there to hold up the roof in the event of a rollover, right? So how about we reduce the overall weight of the vehicle and use stronger alloys for the pillars.

I wish I could remember which vehicle it was that I saw a diagram for. I want to say it was one of the newer Audis. The majority of the car was aluminum, but in the A and B pillars they were using a stronger steel alloy in order to keep the pillars smaller.

But hey, what do I know? I'm a programmer, not an engineer.
